About EchoBank

Every other site with upvotes eventually turns into the same story: a handful of mods who found God the day they got the little gear icon, a front page that agrees with itself, and a "no politics" rule that somehow only ever gets enforced in one direction. We built EchoBank because we got tired of watching that movie.

The deposit

A bank holds what you put into it and gives it back — it doesn't quietly decide your opinion isn't worth keeping. That's the whole metaphor. Post something, argue about it, and it stays unless it's genuinely against the rules — not because a mod had a bad Tuesday.

What we don't do

• We don't ban you for disagreeing with a mod in a comment thread three years ago.
• We don't quietly rewrite the rules mid-argument so we're retroactively right.
• We don't run a "neutral" community that mysteriously only removes one side's posts.
• We don't let a 19-person Discord decide what a few hundred thousand people are allowed to read.
• We don't pretend "just following the sidebar rules" excuses acting like a tiny tyrant.

What we do instead

• Every post carries a heat signature — a real color, from icy blue to ember red, driven by actual votes and discussion. Not a mod's mood.
• Removals come with a stated reason, logged, visible on the post. No disappearing into the void.
• We'd rather have a community that argues in the open than one that's gone quiet because everyone who disagreed left.
• If a mod actually is out of line, that's a "who watches the watchmen" problem we take seriously — not a feature.

The pitch, honestly

We're not promising a utopia. We're promising a place that runs hot sometimes, stays icy-calm other times, and never quietly turns into an echo chamber just because that's easier to moderate. If a post is bad, downvote it into the ground — that's what the thermal rail is for. We just won't do it for you before you get the chance.

EchoBank is a work in progress, moderated by actual humans who can also be wrong. If we ever start acting like the thing this page is making fun of, that's a bug report — tell us.
